BIOGRAPHY

She began her research stage, as member of the “Grupo de Herramientas Interactivas y Aplicaciones” Group (GHIA), at the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, Universidad Autónoma de Madrid (UAM) in 1999. She participated in different research projects about Collaborative e-learning and Collaborative Knowledge Management. She wrote her PhD about Mechanisms for the Crystallisation of Knowledge, which she implemented in the Knowledge Managemet System called KnowCat. She received her PhD. with Honours in Computer Science and Engineering in 2003.

Between 2004 and 2006 she did three consecutive 6-month postdoctoral research visits at the Technische Universität München (TUM, Germany) doing research on Distributed Applications, Computer-Supported Co-operative Work, Intelligent Agents, Multiagent Systems and Ontologies in Open Environments. She works in collaboration with two research groups at TUM: Artificial Intelligence/Cognition Group (Prof. Dr. D. W. Brauer y el Dr. D. G. Weiss), and Applied Informatics - Cooperative Systems Group (Prof. Dr. D. J. Schlichter).

She has coordinated for three years (2003-2007) a Docent Innovation Project, supported by Universidad Autónoma de Madrid. In this project the KnowCat system was used by several groups of students and teachers at UAM. During 2008 and 2009, she coordinated an international project supported by AECID (Spanish Agency of International Cooperation for Development). She works in collaborations in this project with research groups from Universidad del Cauca (Colombia), Universidad Nacional de Colombia (Medellín, Colombia) and Universitat de Lleida (España).

Since 2002 she is member of the Spanish Human Computer Interaction Association (AIPO) and since 2005 she is member of the: “Cognición y contexto: El aprendizaje colaborativo mediado por ordenador“ group (Manoli Pifarré Turmo).

Nowadays, she directs a doctoral thesis on the use of digital television for distance and open education. In recent years she has conducted several research on the generation of collaborative web applications, and monitoring student progress and motivating factors in collaborative learning scenarios. Her research interests include Multiagent Systems and Ontologies in Open Environments, Groupware and Communityware aimed at Distributed Knowledge Management, Education, e-Learning and Blended Learning.
